CoreLogic promotes advancement opportunities through education support
At CoreLogic, we believe that education is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. And it’s not just a belief; it’s a core principle within our company. Just ask Ben Avilez, a software engineer whose journey within CoreLogic illuminates the transformative potential of education and how it can be a stepping stone to new opportunities.
From IT Support to Software Engineer
Ben’s story is one of exploration. When he joined CoreLogic more than three years ago, Ben began in technical services, where he provided IT support to our top-tier executives. In this initial role, he connected with decision-makers who piqued his curiosity and inspired his passion for learning.
Curiosity then propelled Ben to venture into data quality. Thanks to CoreLogic’s tuition assistance program, he was able to pursue this interest and eventually put his new knowledge into practice, deepening his understanding of CoreLogic’s vast property data ecosystem.
“Although my original bachelor’s was in film production, I knew I’d be able to do more for my career if I attained a computer science degree,” Ben said. “CoreLogic’s tuition assistance benefit enabled me to finish up that program and opened new horizons for furthering my education. I had never heard of data science prior to joining CoreLogic, but I was intrigued by the machine learning models some teams were working on.”
Join CoreLogic and ignite your journey of education, growth and boundless opportunities
As Ben embarked on a quest to streamline processes, automate tasks and unlock newfound efficiencies, his confidence grew. Those goals allowed him to build on the knowledge he learned in his coursework and the practical applications he found at CoreLogic, which would eventually lead him to transition to his current role as a software engineer within the real estate technology sector. This unexpected pivot has defined and shaped his career.
CoreLogic’s Tuition Assistance Program: A Springboard to Success
What made Ben’s academic journey possible is the support he’s received from CoreLogic’s tuition assistance program, a resource that makes education accessible. He encourages all CoreLogic employees to explore this resource, as it can transform career aspirations into tangible achievements. Initially, Ben pursued a bachelor’s degree in computer science to change his career path, but his passion for learning didn’t stop there; he’s currently working towards a master’s degree in analytics.
“I enrolled in a masters of analytics program to further my interests and was introduced to Python on day one. Learning this programming language was a game-changer, as it gave me the skills to perform data manipulation and build out automated scripts,” Ben explained. “From there, I developed an ETL (extract, transform, load) from scratch within the data-quality department, which ultimately gave me the confidence to move into my current role as a software engineer on the Discovery Platform.”
Your Journey in Real Estate Technology Starts at CoreLogic
Ben’s inspiring journey showcases CoreLogic’s commitment to education as a means to inspire growth, build confidence, spark innovation and unlock new career opportunities. No matter where you start or which field you come from, CoreLogic provides support for your educational path.

Hi, my name is Ben Avilez.
0:08
I’m a professional software engineer at Core Logic.
0:10
Been here a little over three years now and I’ve definitely taken the path less traveled so to say.
0:16
I initially started out in technical services under Georgine Taylor and I served the sea levels and executives doing their IT support.
0:23
That was a great networking opportunity for me.
0:25
Just getting to rub elbows with a lot of those decision makers, I then made the transition over to data quality.
0:30
I wanted to put into practice some of the things I’ve been learning in school and then also learn more about CoreLogic’s data.
0:35
One of the unexpected byproducts of being in that role was just being able to automate so many different things, and I think that ultimately gave me the confidence to pursue my current role in software engineering.
0:45
So my advice to those looking to make the transition here internally at CoreLogic would be to never stop learning.
0:52
My first bachelor’s degree was actually in television, film and new media production, and I actually ran my own video production company for about four years.
1:00
During that time, I worked out of a co-working office and I had a colleague who is a software engineer, and I just saw all the success he was having and I just thought that would be such a great fit for me.
1:09
So I decided to actually pursue another bachelor’s in computer science.
1:13
And then I’m also working on a master’s in analytics at this time.
1:17
So just leveraging CoreLogic’s tuition assistance program has made that a lot more approachable for me and my family.
1:24
Definitely encourage people to leverage that if they’re not already familiar with it.
