Sunday, November 11, marked this year’s Veterans Day – an annual holiday designated to honor all those who have or currently serve in the United States Armed Forces. To recognize those who have risked their lives to protect ours, the Military Engagement Association (MEA) held a memorable event in Dallas, Texas, celebrating Veterans Day for local CoreLogic employees on November 5. The MEA is a CoreLogic Employee Resource Group that empowers employees to recognize, connect and support the broader military community.
At this special event, Barry Sando, managing director, Underwriting & Workflow Solutions, gave a speech that paid tribute to our nation’s veterans. MEA Support Committee Chair Sarah Bell delivered a rousing rendition of the U.S. National Anthem. Jack Fanning, a U.S. Air Force veteran, joined as a guest speaker to share highlights of his military career and subsequent service to the local community.
Jack served as an Air Force Special Operations Combat Controller, a highly trained professional who works on the ground to guide bombs and missiles. He was deployed to South America several times and, following the September 11 attacks, joined Operating Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Almost 10 years ago, Jack sustained a severe spinal cord injury during an airborne training that may have limited his mobility, but not his ability to help others. He is now passionately dedicated to supporting other local veterans as well as first responders and their families through Brothers Keepers. His moving story inspired each and every person in attendance.
Brothers Keepers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, run by an all-volunteer staff, that provides once-in-a-lifetime experiential retreats and ongoing support that offers profound healing and fellowship for wounded veterans, first responders, their families and others tirelessly serving our community and our country. The organization sends veterans and first responders on retreats with their families, in order to promote healing as a family, and among other wounded heroes and their families.
